92:06:20:15 -- That's the countdown to our departure for Ten Mile Lake at the end of May. As usual, about this time every year, we start checking your webcam for conditions nearby. Ten Mile is about an hour north out of Ignace and east/southeast from you. Been one heck of a cold winter from Sioux Lookout all the way down here to northern Iowa, as we've all added the term "polar vortex" to our vocabularies this year. I hope your new format here works for you. Seems suitable to me. We'll be checking in hoping to see the ice-out get a going some day. I was just recalling--was it two or three years ago?--when there was boat fishing in March that had to halt while the season closed until the opener in May. Not this year! In the meantime, thanks for helping us stay connected to the beautiful land you get to call home. Scott Buchanan, Algona, Iowa.

Glad your count down has begun, Scott. Adds a little excitement to the next few months.
You'll see a lot more snow before you see open water this year. Matter of fact, you'll see lots more snow by this time tomorrow.
Thanks for checking in. Keep in touch.
Good wishes.
Dick

It's been a pretty snowy winter here in IL Dick, but nothing like what's going on up there. I hope you're all staying well and keeping warm.

Hi Ron,
Nice to hear from you. Glad you're still checking in once in a while.
Just back from a few days in Minneapolis. Damn near as cold there as here. It has been an especially harsh winter for us all.
Do you plan to get up this way any time soon?
Hi to Beth.
Good wishes.
Dick

Hello Dick. Been a regular the past few years, checking your web cam for ice out. Got me a little worried this year, coming in on May 22. I'm not sure the ice will be out on our lakes in Indiana by then. Really appreciate your cam. I agree with Scott. First I've ever heard of the polar vortex. Have a great day. A.J. I think you'll be fine by the third week of May, A.J. I have a suspicion that spring will bloom quickly, and on time, this year. Good wishes.

May 10th that seems pretty fast. I'd say May 15th. I'm checking your weather twice a day. Lol We go out of Hudson opening weekend and it's been icy 3 out of the last 10 years.

I've been coming to the Sioux Lookout area for over a decade and I can't believe that I've never found your website. We always arrive for the opening day of Walleye season and last year we couldn't get to our cabin (on an island in a nearby lake) for the first four (4) days. Having your webcam (and the barrel) to check on, from time-to-time, is interesting to say the least. We'll be arriving in Sioux Lookout on May 15 and believe that we won't have a repeat of last year. Thanks for providing the entertainment! Russell Dapp Overland Park, Kansas P.S. Your "endofwinter" sign blew down earlier today. And, I see that the barrel is now listing to the East.

Well, Barney, I must admit I answered May 12 to the ice-out question a couple days ago. I'm comfortable with May 10 or 12. Lac Seul ice-out happens four or five days after Pelican here in town.
Good to hear from you, Russell. If you're in town this trip and have time for coffee give me a call.

Hi Dick, I see it is snowing again up in Sioux Lookout per your webcam. If it was Dec 2 I would say how beautiful, but on April 25 I would be saying "Are you kidding me"! LoL. Looks like 2 springs in a row that the ice is going to be off at the last minute. So, we are planning on going up to Lake St Joe the week of May 19. Do you have any idea on if LSJ ice and how long after until the ice is off when the ice clears in your area? Just wondering. Thanks for the webcame. I am on pretty much daily waiting to see water!!
