We've been able to do some boating while dodging ice floes and jams since the weekend. The ice was officially declared all gone this afternoon - May 6. Dick

Good morning, Jack.
Thanks for the comment on my stone wall. It's the first time I've tried anything like that. I have a lot of finishing work to do, but thought I'd wait a year and make sure everything stays stuck before doing any more. So far, so good.
The stones are manufactured - sorta like chicken nuggets, I guess. They start out as rocks, get all crushed up, then molded back together to look like real stones. I'm happy with them.
When you get yours done send me a picture.
Good wishes.
Dick

Hi Jack, Of course I remember talking with you in the past. Hoping one day you'll look me up as you pass through so we can meet. I'm not sure if the caterpillars ranged over your way this summer. If not, you won't see much different from past years. If they did get there you won't see any. At most you may encounter the moths-stage, but I think they'll be mostly done by the time you arrive in September. So, I predict it'll be business as usual for you, and excellent fishing! Good wishes. Dick

Fireworks usually start about 10 p.m. Good view from town beach. Lions Club activities for kids at the town beach during the day. I don't see much else posted around at this time. Hudson homecoming celebrations should be pretty great so you could take part in some of those events if you're in the area June 28 and 29.

I don't know the fishing on Little V first hand, Ryan. It's noted for lake trout, muskies, and excellent smallmouth bass fishing. As an adventure fishing a new lake you'd probably enjoy yourself.

That's great, Chris. If you talk to your relatives on the cell phone while fishing out front here it'll be like your own live television show. Hope the start to your third decade of Northwestern Ontario fishing is memorable. Have a good trip.

Good morning, Don. I'd say chances are better than 50- 50, but you probably won't have to buy bagged ice for your coolers. Hope you have a good trip. Be sure to release all large walleyes. They'll be females that haven't spawned yet.

The barrel went through at 3:48 this afternoon. I had gotten home from camp barely an hour earlier and was sitting on my deck drinking a glass of wine, so had a nice view. Official ice-out, when the very last hint of ice disappears, should follow in a few days. The latest recorded ice out on Pelican Lake was May 23, 1966.

The barrel is still in place, Garry. (Sunday, May 11, 7:15 a.m.). In certain sunlight conditions the yellow barrel doesn't show up well on the cam. Give it another look. It's still on top.
